Memories/Special occasions
This family home photograph is posted for the information of the great grandchildren of Mr and Mrs Mammen (Podiyachen). Some of you were born overseas and will not have seen this home. This property was bought by Podiyachen in 1957 (great grandfather) and there was a 2-bedroom home in this property. Podiyachen and his family moved into this home. It was old and the roof was covered with coconut leaves (Ola). Appachen (Mathulla) came and stayed with us every night until he died in 1958. The old home was demolished in early 1960 and build the present home you see today.
Before this we were all living in Kulathrattu family home (Tharavadu). It was a large family, grandparents, children and grandchildren living together. It was fun, we were 11 children living in the same home. We had visitors very often who stayed with us. I do not know how many of you remember those days. If I do not mention something about our grandparents, it will be a great mistake. Appachen was a gentle man. We used to go with Appachen, every day to the river for taking bath. He taught us how to swim and dive into deep water. Grandmother used to tell us lots of stories including her father’s wealth and she used to take me with her to visit her sisters. she was very kind and used to defend us for our naughty behavior.
